Sidian, Ersatz & Vanes are a trio of designers preoccupied with the possibilities of men’s shirting. Their varied interests come together in the desire to expand the range of influences in fashion design and search for intersections between different fields of endeavour, drawing from science and liberal arts as often as visual design and the creative fields. From these principles, they aim to distil their inspirations to abstract forms, whether colour palettes or print patterns. The designs might start from points of colour theory or diagrams in mathematics textbooks, the lives of notable scientists or ages of discovery – but they always take shape as a distinct style. Fascination with geometry is a another constant in Sidian, Ersatz & Vanes’ work, often employing centuries-old and modern spatial concepts, from the Golden Mean to aperiodic tiling.
